Nutrition Programs

Bastyr University's nutrition program emphasizes the study of the physiological, biochemical, socioeconomic, political and psychological aspects of human nutrition and physical activity. Programs of study include a bachelor's degree, a choice of three master's degrees, a dietetic internship and a post-baccalaureate preparatory program.

Bachelor of Science in Nutrition (BSN)

The BS degree with a major in nutrition prepares students for positions such as dietetic technicians and nutrition educators under the supervision of health care professionals, or for graduate work in related health science fields. Students admitted in the program are eligible to apply for the Didactic Program in Dietetics (BSN/DPD).  Please contact an admissions advisor for more information.

Master of Science in Nutrition (MSN)

Provides students with a solid overview of nutrition science, theory and research in preparation for future doctoral study or for employment in research and development, public policy, or the prevention and wellness field. Graduates are eligible in some states for certification as nutritionists with a limited scope of practice. Students in this program are required to complete a thesis.

Master of Science in Nutrition and Clinical Health Psychology (MSNCHP)

A 3-year graduate program leading to credentials to practice as a nutritionist and licensure as a mental health counselor. This provides interdisciplinary education in nutrition, dietetics, and clinical health psychology for students who wish a fully integrated mind-body approach to human health.

Master of Science in Nutrition/Didactic Program in Dietetics (MSN/DPD)

The master's level DPD is approved by the American Dietetics Association. This leads to a dietetic internship, where students gain experience in clinical dietetics, community nutrition and food service systems and management. Read more about this program.

Dietetic Internship (DI)

The dietetic internship is based upon the American Dietetic Association's standards of education and is designed to provide performance requirements for entry-level dietitians through supervised practice. The internship provides an interactive experience in which participants can achieve competency in all areas of dietetics and nutrition.  Read more about this program.

Post-Baccalaureate Preparatory Program

Students who have earned a bachelor's degree may apply for admission to the post-baccalaureate preparatory program. This program is designed for students who are planning to apply for the MS nutrition program at Bastyr University and intend to enroll in courses at the university totaling six (6) or more credits per term while fulfilling prerequisite requirements.  Read more about this program.
