Samyar Bukovcan, student
Doctor of Naturopathic Medicine ('08)
At Bastyr University, there's a great support network. I've never experienced a community that is so much like family. I don't think you'll find a more supportive environment in a school. I chose to come to Bastyr because it has a well-known name throughout the country and it attracts uniquely passionate and caring individuals. Most students interact closely with the administration and the faculty, and Bastyr makes developing those relationships very easy. When I graduate, I can use my education anywhere, because a Bastyr degree is respected worldwide.
Through my clinical education, both at Bastyr Center for Natural Health, the University's teaching clinic and through preceptorships and external clinical shifts, I have become more open-minded. I've been amazed at the efficacy of so many natural therapies. I've seen a 12-year-old boy's rheumatoid arthritis completely resolve six weeks after starting a natural protocol. And this was after a year and half of nothing else working. That blew me away.
As a naturopathic doctor, I plan to practice community medicine and reach out to offer health education in other countries. Because naturopathic medicine has a focus on prevention, it's important to bring it into communities and see people before they are sick, and give them resources to help themselves and each other.
