Michelle Miller, student
Master of Science in Nutrition and Clinical Health Psychology ('08)
I came to Bastyr University because the Master of Science in Nutrition and Clinical Health Psychology (MSNCHP) is unique and isn't offered anywhere else. It was perfect for me and integrated all of my vocational interests, which included physical health, ecology and psychological counseling.
I had a very interdisciplinary background, including working with children, studying environmental science and teaching, and my education at Bastyr has allowed me to bring it all together. By enrolling in this program, I have gained the tools to work with people on many levels — to address mental, emotional, spiritual and nutritional factors influencing their well-being. Whether I help ease someone's pain or just provide the space where they can be heard, working with patients during my clinical training has been so fulfilling.
After I graduate, the first thing I plan to do is to find a job with a mental health agency in order to earn the hours needed for licensure as a mental health counselor. Ideally, I would like to counsel children and adults about nutritional and mental health issues in an integrative clinic alongside other practitioners.
I have been very impressed with Bastyr and the MSNCHP program, and I feel like I made the right choice for myself. It simply "fit" for me.
